I can never really sleep fitfully. A good night's sleep while good seems rare, always stuff going through my mind or job stress stuff... I might be in that I'll sleep when I'm dead camp also. I recently read the Watchmen. It blew my mind. Doesn't it make all the sense in the world that if you are going to do something as extreme as getting in fucking costume and fucking people up that there's more to it than antiquated notions of justice or doing good? Rorsharch might be the best example. He's unyielding and psychotic. Violent and ruthless. Not to mention incredibly small. Easily his best line is: "None of you understand. I'M not locked up in here with YOU. YOU'RE locked up in here with ME." So good, maybe you haven't gotten to that part yet. But The concept of this book is such a departure from typical super hero stuff, it's just really different. That's a great diatribe on comic books. Comics were still in their corny goody-goody phase, and then Watchmen was a hit and everyone tripped all over themselves to become "edgy". Through that lens, from Superman not liking to do any harm to bad guys to Watchmen's ultra-violence, it's like a quantum leap. Or something. I think it’s because no one had done it like Watchmen before Watchmen came out. Comics were still in their corny goody-goody phase, and then Watchmen was a hit and everyone tripped all over themselves to become “edgy”.
