I just fielded what was one of the classiest phone calls I’ve ever received. Ian Rowe is the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Public Affairs for MTV (incidentally, he was one of the unnamed MTV employees I praised as working hard with and for us all year.) He called me to personally apologize for what he called their “mismanagement” of the payment situation, and to talk about how bad he felt that what had been a fantastic experience had turned out in so disappointing a manner.
And he is calling all 51 of us!
So half the checks went out Friday, and the other half go out tomorrow.
We were supposed to tell stories like this, and we did. Then we actually BECAME the story. But we used what we had learned all year, and we stood up and fought for what we were owed. And MTV came through.
This is what happens when people speak up, and when good people inside corporations truly engage in best practices. It is so rare to get an apology like this one, and this make-good gesture is deeply appreciated.
