You could use the word 'adore' little less. It will be less meaningful with time . You can't adore everything that you like.

what were you looking when you went to there? meet women?

Don't yell at him, Sara!!!!!

He will out Ces as a CIA operative, have you sent to Gitmo for 5 years, and then claim executive privelege when I go all lawyer-like on him to get him to stop.

Just leave him be. He's simply GOT to implode sometime....doesn't he?

I am late to the game in responding to you, Stephen and Meredith, as it's been a particularly busy week. BUT! Thank you very much for reading my bligga blog, and also for sharing your thoughts on the Cros. I still haven't finished it, mainly because to my chagrin I find that I spend most of my time reading the Inter-nets these days. But! Your comments motivate me to finish up and figure out how I feel about the whole book, once and for all.

Hahaha. This is an overdue response, but thanks, Stephen.

I'm a lefty feminist, and I gotta say that sometimes a little objectification can be a very nice thing.

(I said a LITTLE, ladies! Not a lot!)

Hmf. Only #9?

He's obviously not looked over all your photos, and under-appreciates the chesticles.

I do like some of his other pics, and I LOVE that you don't mind being intelligently objectified by the guy.

I just finished this book this past Thursday -- I feel similarly to you. I think she's a great, funny and engaging writer; I, too, loved the story about the mentally ill man in her building. The wedding story was another of my favorites. The one about volunteering at the AMNH Butterfly Exhibit, though, sort of rubbed me the wrong way -- I felt like she was shouting from the rooftops about how extremely, unbelievably, terribly selfish she was, and I was having trouble identifying with it, and why she needed to do that (and even I am pretty selfish).

But, at any rate, I thought it was a great little collection of essays and I can't wait to read what comes out of her brain in the future.

I agree on your points, except one.

I think we can TOTALLY compare her with David Sedaris, and in the comparison, she wins.

I recently ordered all of his books ever written, and his early stuff was shite (okay, not complete shite, but certainly not up to his hits).

So Sloane at her age is a better writer, since this is her first actual book (she of course has published many essays). She's clever and when she sticks with autobiographical info (like Sedaris), she's at her level best.

I, too, liked the entire story about her apartment complex and the obsessive dude with the door. But the ensuing chapter where she goes on about how she wants her kids born in Belgium starts SOOO slowly. Once she gets back on-board with her own stories, it picks right back up.

And her hair may be extremely shiny and she may be quite cute, but who, tell me WHO can compare with your eyes lips and tits?? Nobody. That's what I thought!*

*Okay, Sedaris has nice lips, but that's about it.
